Visit Parrot Island in Baratang, famous for thousands of parrots and birds returning at sunset.

Parrot Island is a natural wonder hidden deep within the mangroves of Baratang. Uninhabited by humans, this island belongs entirely to thousands of parakeets. Every evening, as the sky turns golden, the horizon is filled with clouds of birds returning to their roosting grounds, creating a symphony of sounds and a visual spectacle unlike any other in India.
Because the bird activity happens only at sunset, you cannot visit Parrot Island on a day-trip from Port Blair. The last convoy through the Jarawa Reserve leaves at 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM. To see Parrot Island, you must stay overnight in Baratang.
The island is unique because the birds have trimmed the mangrove leaves to a specific height, making the island look perfectly manicured. As dusk approaches, the parakeets arrive in groups, circle the island multiple times, and finally settle into the mangroves. The sound of thousands of birds chirping together is a powerful experience of nature's raw beauty.
